About Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic Suspension
What is this medication? Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic Suspension is a combination prescription ear medication used to treat bacterial infections in the outer ear canal, which is often referred to as swimmer's ear. It contains two different antibiotics, neomycin and polymyxin B, that work together to kill the bacteria responsible for the infection. Doctors may also prescribe this medication to treat bacterial infections that develop following certain types of ear surgery.
The third component of this medication is hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid that helps to decrease inflammation, redness, and itching in the ear canal. By addressing both the bacteria and the body's inflammatory response, the medication provides relief from discomfort while eliminating the infection. It is important to use this suspension only in the ear and to complete the full course of treatment as directed by a healthcare provider.
