About Neupro
What is this medication?
Neupro is a prescription medication delivered through a transdermal patch that contains the active ingredient rotigotine. It is classified as a dopamine agonist, which means it works by mimicking the effects of dopamine, a natural substance in the brain that helps regulate movement and coordination. This medication is primarily used to manage the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, including tremors, stiffness, and slow movement, in both early and advanced stages of the condition.
Beyond its application for Parkinson's disease, Neupro is also approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe primary Restless Legs Syndrome. This condition causes an overwhelming urge to move the legs, typically during the evening or night when a person is resting. The patch is designed to be applied to the skin once every twenty-four hours, providing a continuous and steady release of medicine into the bloodstream. It is important for patients to rotate the application site daily to help prevent skin irritation and ensure the medication remains effective.
