About Prempro, Premphase

What is this medication? Prempro and Premphase are prescription medications used for hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women who still have their uterus. These medications contain a combination of two female hormones, conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone acetate. They are primarily prescribed to treat moderate to severe symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats, as well as to address vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation caused by decreasing estrogen levels.

In addition to managing menopausal symptoms, these medications are also used to help prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to become thin and weak. Because they contain a progestin, they are specifically designed for women who have not had a hysterectomy to help lower the risk of developing cancer of the lining of the uterus. Patients typically take these tablets once daily, following a continuous or sequential schedule as determined by their healthcare provider.
