About Tretinoin Cream
What is this medication?
Tretinoin cream is a topical prescription medication primarily used to treat acne vulgaris. It belongs to a class of drugs known as retinoids, which are synthetic derivatives of vitamin A. When applied to the skin, it works by increasing the turnover rate of skin cells and preventing the formation of comedones, which are the initial stage of acne breakouts. By keeping the pores clear, it reduces the severity and frequency of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads.
In addition to treating acne, this medication is frequently prescribed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots caused by sun damage. It promotes collagen production and helps to even out skin tone and texture over time. Because it increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight, patients are typically advised to apply it at night and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day to prevent irritation or further damage.
