About Hydroxate Gel
Urea 40% Gel is a prescription topical medication primarily used to manage and treat various skin conditions characterized by extreme dryness, scaling, and irritation. It is most frequently prescribed for individuals suffering from ichthyosis vulgaris, a genetic skin disorder where dead skin cells accumulate in thick, dry scales, and for severe cases of xerosis. By addressing the buildup of tough skin layers, the medication helps to restore a smoother and more supple texture to the affected areas while reducing the discomfort caused by tight or cracked skin. The medication functions as both a keratolytic and a humectant to improve skin hydration and overall health. As a keratolytic, it helps to break down and soften the protein keratin in the skin, allowing dead skin cells to shed more easily and reducing the thickness of the scales. Simultaneously, it acts as a humectant by drawing moisture into the skin and helping the skin barrier retain that water.
